What is the Seed Library? The Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that you can “check out” to plant at home. Our collection changes seasonally. So, you’ll see different seeds available at different times. Click here for a list of currently available seeds How do I check out seeds? Your Riverhead Free Library Card is your key to borrowing seeds. Households may request three different varieties of seeds each week. Seeds can be requested using our convenient Online Request Form. When using the form to make a request you can either ask to have the seeds mailed to your residence, or you can choose to pick the seeds up in person at the Adult Reference desk. If you choose to pick up your seeds in person, you will be notified when they are ready for pickup.
Requests can also be made in person. Stop by the reference desk to view our binder full of currently available seed varieties. Then fill out a paper request form and the form to a Reference Department staff member. Your seeds will be given to you to take home for planting. Our list of available seeds changes from week to week. Please wait a full week before making a new request to ensure the availability and changing variety of seeds. Do I have to return seeds? No. You do not have to return seeds. Out of an abundance of caution, we are currently not accepting seeds for sharing.
