What is the Seed Library? The Seed Library is a collection of open-pollinated and heirloom seeds that are available to plant at home. Our collection changes seasonally. Therefore, different seeds will be available at different.
How do I check out seeds? To be able to borrow seeds, a person must have a Riverhead Free Library Card. Households may request up to three (3) different varieties of seeds twice a month. Seeds can be requested using the Online Request Form (Available Soon). You will be notified when they are ready for pickup. The requested seeds may be picked up in-person at the Adult Reference desk.
A patron can stop by the Adult Reference desk to view the seed catalog binder full of currently available seed varieties. The next step is to fill out a paper request form and give the form to a Reference Department Staff Member. The seeds will be given to you to take home for planting. The availablitiy of the seeds will change from month to month. Do I have to return seeds? No. You do not have to return seeds. Out of an abundance of caution, we are currently not accepting seeds for sharing.
