Purpose of Meeting

Legal Services of Long Island and CARECEN will provide valuable presentations to the community on contemporary issues in education, immigration rights, and the rights of tenants. 

At 4:30 pm, Legal Services of Long Island will present Know Your Rights: Contemporary Issues in Education, discussing the special education process, independent evaluations, declassification, school disenrollment procedures, attendance rules
in New York, and how to handle bullying.


At 5:30 pm, CARECEN will present Know Your Rights: Immigration-Related Issues, covering immigration benefits, new policies, and standby guardianship and emergency planning for families with pending cases.


At 6:30 pm, Legal Services of Long Island will present Know Your Rights: Common Tenant Problems, discussing tenants’ rights when behind on rent, how to handle illegal evictions, and other residential tenant protections.
*English and Spanish Presentations* 

Additionally, there will be a separate space where Long Island non-profit or other organizations specializing in immigration, public benefits, housing, domestic violence, and other areas will be able to speak to and give out information to the community. 

For community members seeking an attorney consultation, attorneys and space will be available to have a private consultation on a first-come, first-serve basis.
