Event Details

Historian Christoper Daley discusses the pivotal moments and leaders who shaped the path to freedom—from the abolitionist movement and the leadership of Abraham Lincoln to the Emancipation Proclamation and its impact during the Civil War. The program culminates on June 19, 1865, when Federal troops arrived in Texas and General Order No. 3 was read in Galveston—a transformative moment at the war’s end that sparked what we now know as Juneteenth.
