The Riverhead Free Library offers a variety of volunteer programs for teens in grades 6-12 where they are able to earn community service hours. The teens will be given a certificate of completion at the end of each program which states the number of hours that were completed. Please view our newsletter and online calendar for additional community service opportunities.

The Pawject
Help us with projects to benefit local animal shelters and complete various tasks to earn community service hours. Each month features a different project, allowing you to earn community service hours year-round. Earn 2 hours of community service per kit. 2 kits can be requested per month.
Teen Recycling Challenge
Earn community service hours by recycling bottles and cans to any local bottle drop. Earn up to 10 hours of community service per month:
20 containers = 1 volunteer hour
40 containers = 2 volunteer hours
60 containers = 3 volunteer hours
etc.
My Public Library
Create a short video to inspire our community and celebrate all the wonderful reasons the Riverhead Free Library matters.
Teens that follow all project guidelines will earn 1.5 hours of community service
Smiles to Go
Earn community service by coloring lovely pictures from Color A Smile and sending them to those in need! Earn 1 hour of community service.
Cards for Hospitalized Kids
Earn community service by decorating cards for sick children. Earn up to 4 hours of community service per month.
Bookmarks With Purpose
Earn community service by decorating bookmarks for our homebound patrons. Earn up to 2 hours of community service per month.
Teen Artist of the Month
Are you interested in drawing, painting, photography, Photoshop, or any other type of media? We are looking for teens to display their artwork in the Teen Loft. Earn up to 4 hours of community service.
